Discover the 2024 Kia EV6 GT-Line
Kia continues to reinforce its standing as a bigwig in the electric vehicle industry with its new exciting models, which will continue improving as the years go by. With a market share of around 5.4%, it’s selling more EV cars in the US than its parent company Hyundai, giving other EV industry giants a real run for their money. So, what are some of the phenomenal models that have helped Kia’s unprecedented growth?
There are many, but the 2024 Kia EV6 GT-line has been a real game-changer in how people view the auto manufacturer’s models. First, being a GT (grand tourer), this car delivers the ultimate promise of speed and comfort during long-distance drives making it the ideal vehicle for family getaways. It’s also an electric vehicle, with quite an impressive range meaning you don’t have to worry about running out of fuel/charge during your expeditions.
But what makes this vehicle a darling to Americans despite the dominance of other reputable brands such as Tesla and Ford’s Mach E? We’ve prepared this exclusive guide to help you discover the 2024 Kia EV6 GT-line in detail.
Kia's EV Line
Kia doesn't miss the mark on fulfilling auto lovers' needs; a testament to this is its extensive EV range. For those who fancy an all-electric car (which is pretty remarkable considering it gives zero emissions), Kia has them covered with models such as the Niro EV, EV6, and EV9. They also sport some pretty incredible range, thus ensuring you don’t have to make frequent stops in the charging stations to revitalize your batteries.
Another remarkable kind is the plugin hybrid, which is incredible as they run on purely electric power for short distances, making them ideal for around-the-town drives. Notable models include the Sportage Plug-in Hybrid, Niro Plug-in Hybrid, and the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid. Their other perk is that they make zero emissions in EV mode and charge pretty fast.
Finally, if you still love the gusto of gas-powered engines but want the perks of modern EVs, Kia also has a car line for you; the pure Hybrid. These don’t require you to spend time in the charging station, as they are self-charging.
Pure Kia Hybrids, such as the Carnival MPV hybrid, Sorento Hybrid, Niro hybrid, and Sportage hybrid, guarantee fuel savings. Why? The electric system alleviates the burden of powering the car from the gas engine, which means a gallon of fuel will take you further than a non-hybrid vehicle.
Kia EV6 Versions
Now, let’s return to the elephant in the room, the phenomenal EV6. This car is undoubtedly an outstanding all-electric crossover SUV with sleek appeal, exquisite power, efficiency, and an array of safety and drive features. However, there’s one fundamental problem for buyers: which EV6 trims are the most ideal because there are just too many of them? What’s clear is that there’s just a unique feature for every trim, and we’ll break down each in detail.
EV6 Light Trims
Kia EV6 Light versions are the base trims of the EV6 line. Although they’re also arguably the cheapest, which could suggest they have fewer features, they’d still make a case as some of the best low-budget EVs. These trims include the following:
- Light RWD
- Light Long Range RWD
- Light Long Range AWD
Light RWD
The Light RWD features a battery electric powertrain with a rear-wheel drive train and an estimated range of 231 miles on a full charge. This could be explained by its relatively lower battery capacity of 58.0 kW, but this isn’t to say that it's not a powerful car as it has quite a decent power output of 176hp and a torque of 258lb-ft. This crossover is also pretty spacious for a base trim with a seating capacity of 5 people. Besides, it's also an efficient car for in-city and short highway distance driving, as evidenced by its 117 MPGe.
Light Long Range RWD
It's an SUV with a seven-person seating capacity and a 304-mile electric range. Kia created this EV6 trim for long-distance drives, and you can attest to its relatively extensive range, which is due to its massive 99.8 kW battery.
The car is an RWD with a power output of 210hp, although its torque capacity is surprisingly similar to that of the base Light RWD model. How about its efficiency? Well, the Light trounces it on this parameter as the Long-range has an efficiency of 88 MPGe. Still, it's a worthwhile acquisition especially if you’re looking for a long-distance electric car with more sitting area.
Light Long Range AWD
Unlike the former, this is designed as a Crossover with a seating capacity for five people. With a battery capacity of 77.4kW, it has a slightly lesser full-charge range than the Long Range RWD of 282 miles. But this car isn’t all about range but power, given that it's the AWD version of the Light Long Range. With it, you’re guaranteed a power output of 320hp and a massive torque of 446 lb-ft.
EV6 Wind RWD
It’s not the base trim of the EV6, but it’s among the most popular models in the line. For such a car, a 225-horsepower engine is a huge bargain given that this is actually more powertrain than other base models such as the Sportage and the Sorento. Another fun fact is that despite being the base trim, it's arguably the most popular EV6, sporting a 77.4 kWh battery with a great range of about 310 miles.
Also, expect all the basic safety and luxury features you’d find in any Kia on this car, such as a Smart power tailgate, a wireless phone charging system, and a Lane-keeping assist.
EV6 Wind AWD
This is not your average EV6 Wind trim because, unlike the former, it is an all-wheel drive, meaning its powertrain provides traction to all four wheels, making it ideal for all-weather driving.
But while the AWD model guarantees more power and traction, this comes at a cost, as it means sacrificing efficiency. Its 320 horsepower powertrain means it's a more robust car with an exquisite torque of 446 pound-feet but a relatively lower range than the base Wind model, at 282 miles.
EV6 GT-Line RWD
Being an EV6, this RWD trim is similar to the Wind model highlighted above, although it has upgraded features such as the GT-Line design and more luxury.
The powertrain and battery size are the same as the Wind, at 225hp and 77.4 kWh, but looking at the GT-Line, you’ll outright notice the incredible GT-Line body styling, which stands out for its unique sporty appeal. Despite being a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, the GT-Line is still quite a powerful car with a guaranteed torque of 258 pound-feet.
It also has extensive luxury features, including a sunroof, 19-inch alloy wheels featuring a black finish, LED Accent Lighting with various color options, and flush door handles that extend automatically when necessary. Its safety is guaranteed because, besides the plethora of safety features in the Wind, this one has features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Junction Crossing Detection.
EV6 GT-Line AWD
It's a GT-line like the one we’ve covered earlier but with better traction, powertrain, and drive. Also, unlike the former, this AWD sports a sleeker GT-Line Body Styling and more powertrain at 320 hp.
As you’d expect, this car is compelling. Its torque is 446 pound-feet, meaning it can pull more load than the RWD, an essential feature for a vehicle designed for all-weather drives. Its EPA estimated range is 252 miles, less efficient than the RWD's 310 miles. This is understandable, as the AWD means this car consumes more power, given its higher powertrain and torque capacity.
The GT-Line AWD also comes with 20-inch alloy wheels that sport a similar black finish to the RWD and more luxury perks, such as heated outboard rear seats and a heated steering wheel with a sporty design.
EV6 GT AWD
It is the ultra-premium trim of the EV6, designed for speed freaks who love a blend of power and agility. Its phenomenal powertrain of 576 horsepower makes it faster than one of the fastest-speed cars, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, rated at 518 horsepower. The power of this trim is also out of this world, given its incredible 545 pound-feet of torque, which means it's nearly double as powerful as the GT-line RWD.
Such an immense speed rating means that this car has to be extra stable, so Kia has equipped it with 21-inch alloy wheels to keep it fully grounded when driving. Its design is also unique, as it has the typical GT body styling, and being the premium trim, you can expect extensive luxury features that include:
- GT Sport Front Bucket Seats and a GT Exclusive Drive Mode
- A leather-wrapped sport steering wheel for ultimate comfort while driving
- Neon Accented Seat Trim
Its only downside is that the incredible power comes at the cost of a lower EPA estimated range than the rest of the models we’ve covered at 206 miles. Also noteworthy is that all the EV6 trims we’ve covered in this guide have a 77.4 kilowatt-hour battery.
Kia EV6 Exterior/Interior Design
Exterior Design
The Kia EV6 isn’t short of various colors to ensure you’ve got an extensive range of choices, with each trim having a select number of color options. The Wind AWD and RWD are the trims with the most extensive array of exterior colors of all the EV6’s that include:
- Runway Red
- Gravity Blue
- Aurora Black Pearl
- Steel Gray
- Snow White Pearl
- Yacht Blue
- Glacier
- Interstellar Gray
Expect all the above exterior color options in all the EV6 Light Long Range AWD and RWD, apart from Yacht Blue and Steel Gray. How about the GT and the GT Line? Well, as you’d expect, there have to be some flagship GT color features that stand out from the rest of the trims. They’re available in five color shades, including the unique Steel Matte Gray and Aurora Black Pearl, Runway Red, Snow White Pearl, and Yacht Blue.
Finally, the Light RWD has the fewest exterior color options, with only Interstellar Gray, Gravity Blue, and Snow White Pearly available.
Interior Design
For all the EV6 Light trims, the interior comprises Black recycled fabric with a Vegan SynTex Seat trim shade. But for the EV6 Wind, there are two fabric alternative seat styles depending on your preference. For instance, you can opt for the Charcoal/misty gray or the Black vegan color shade.
The GT has three interior color options: Black Vegan, White Vegan, and Black Syntex suede with White Vegan SynTex Seats.
