2025 EQS 450 SUV Review: Mercedes-Benz's Ultimate Electric Experience

Whenever you encounter a Mercedes on the road, three things stand out: elegance, comfort, and performance. The combination of these metrics has seen the German automaker clock a century of undisputed service, providing an extensive array of luxury car models that have sold millions worldwide.
Mercedes has also been at the forefront of aligning with global demand to migrate to electric-powered vehicles since 2021, and the company intends to entirely shift to these types of cars in the next decade. Their vehicles have also stood the test of time, and their EVs are no exception, a testimony to the automakers' refined excellence in the industry and capacity to morph as per the market demands.
One such car is the 2025 EQS 450 SUV, which is the core of today’s review as we analyze its specs and compare it to other vehicles in the EQS series. Before we delve into the specifics, here’s a spoiler alert: If you once fancied the gas-powered Mercedes-Benz GLS-class SUV, then this is its EV version. This means it's actually more efficient, more environment friendly, has additional luxury and comfort features, and still sports some of the features in the gas models that define high-end Mercedes Benz models.
Sounds rousing. Well, you’ve got all the reasons to feel excited about it, as it comes with a broad range of improvements to align with the modern-day, futuristic luxury vehicle demands. We’ll discuss them in detail and touch on the other EQS SUVs to give you a taste of the options you can choose. So without further introduction, let’s get right into the sauce of this 2025 EQS 450 SUV review as we look to give you Mercedes-Benz's Ultimate Electric Experience.

Overview Mercedes-Benz EV SUV lineup

Mercedes has been a fast learner, quickly identifying the need to shift to EV SUVs, especially now that customer preferences are shifting from gas-powered vehicles. The result has been an extensive array of cars in various series, each suited to a different caste of customers. Here are some available options and a fair review of their basic features.
Mercedes Benz EV lineup
Mercedes Benz EQB Series
The EQB cars are luxury SUV vehicles designed for town and highway commuting, and they come in three main trims: the Mercedes-Benz EQB 250+ SUV base model, the Mercedes-Benz EQB 300 4MATIC® SUV, and the Mercedes-Benz EQB 350 4MATIC® SUV. Noteworthy is that the EQB 250+ SUV is quite reasonably priced from $53,050, and some of its fundamental features include:
  • A zero to 60mph acceleration of 8.5 seconds
  • A powertrain of 188hp and torque of 284lb-ft.
  • A 25.9-61.8 cu ft cargo capacity and fits five passengers with the option for seven.
  • A Front-mounted asynchronous (ASM) Electric motor type and a Single-speed Automatic transmission. It’s also a FWD.
  • EPA Estimated Range of 250 miles on a full charge.
  • 18-inch 5-spoke (7.5x18 front and rear) wheels.
Most of these properties are also standard in the other two trims, although the others come with additional ones, such as a rear motor to provide an all-wheel drive in the 225hp EQB 300 4MATIC and a dual motor in the 288hp EQB 350 4MATIC SUV. The Mercedes-Benz EQB 300 4MATIC SUV and the Mercedes-Benz EQB 350 4MATIC SUV are priced from $57,200 and $60,850 respectively.

Mercedes Benz EQE Series

This model line comes in numerous variations, including the base Mercedes-Benz EQE350+ trim sporting an RWD and a single 288-hp motor. However, enthusiasts can upgrade to the EQE350 4Matic AWD model, which has more traction but still has the same power output, no wonder they are retailed at the same price of $79,050. Ultimate power output comes with the premier Mercedes-Benz EQE500 4MATIC, which gives up to 402hp and costs from $90,650.

How about its Sedan? The EQE has a highly rated Mercedes-Benz Luxury EV Sedan series that performs like an upgrade on the EQB series and is available in trims such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE 350+, Mercedes-Benz EQE 350 4MATIC, Mercedes-Benz EQE 500 4MATIC, and Mercedes-AMG EQE.

The Mercedes-Benz EQE 350+ Sedan is the base trim of this series with a price starting from $74,900, and some of its features include a 0 to 60mph acceleration of 6.2 seconds, a powertrain of 288hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. It’s not as spacious as the EQB cars, with its cargo capacity of 10.9 cu ft and a passenger sitting capacity of 5, and this is understandable given that it's a Sedan. It also has a Single-speed Automatic transmission system, a Permanently Excited Synchronous (PSM) engine, a rear-drive configuration, and a 96 kWh battery.
On a full charge, the Mercedes-Benz EQE 350+ can clock 308 miles, which is quite a decent range. It's also a stable car thanks to its 20-inch wheels and low center of gravity, which makes it ideal for cutting corners without losing grip.

Mercedes Benz EQS Series

The base model, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ SUV, forms the basis of our discussion in this review, so we won’t discuss it in detail in this section. However, it is noteworthy that the EQS is the premier EV in the Mercedes-Benz line. Other notable trims in the EQS series include the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 4MATIC, Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC, Mercedes-AMG EQS Sedan, and Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV.
Just to touch on a few features, the $108,250 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 4MATIC is pretty impressive for its spacious interior and futuristic exterior design, and it also sports a host of remarkable properties that justify its price tag, such as the following:
  • A powertrain output of 355hp and a combined torque output of 590 lb-ft. The interior is also pretty spacious, accommodating five passengers, and there’s also the option for 7. The cargo space is also incredible, thanks to its capacity of 23-74 cu ft.
  • It's not too fast, which is a disappointment for a car of its caliber, as it takes around 5.8 seconds to accelerate from zero to 60mph.
  • The EQS 450 4MATIC features a Dual Permanently Excited Synchronous (PSM) Electric motor type. It also comes in a Single-speed Automatic transmission system and a Fully variable 4MATIC All-Wheel Drive with Torque Shift drive configuration.
  • Its battery is pretty big at 118 kWh providing power that can clock up to 312 miles when fully charged.
  • The car is stable with its 21-inch thick tires.
The other cars in this series include the top-tier luxury models such as:
1.Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC SUV: Price; $128,200, Acceleration; 4.5 sec, Power; 536 hp (combined), Torque; 633 lb-ft (combined), Electric motor type; Dual Permanently Excited Synchronous (PSM).
2.Mercedes-AMG EQS Sedan: Price; $147,550, Acceleration; 3.4 sec, EPA Range; 315 miles, Power; 649 hp w/boost to 751 hp, Torque; 700 lb-ft.
3.Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV: Price; $179,900, Acceleration; 4.1sec, Power; 649 hp (combined), Torque; 700 lb-ft (combined), Engine; Dual Permanently Excited Synchronous (PSM).

Mercedes Benz EQS 450+SUV Review

Now, on to the meat of our discussion: the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ SUV. What makes this car remarkable, and is it worth its $105,250 price tag? Let's find out below.
But before we get into the details, remember there’s also a sedan version retailing from $104,400 with an acceleration of 5.9 seconds, a range of 390 miles, and a 118 kWh battery capacity. So what makes the SUV a better bet than the sedan? Check out!

Exterior and Interior

If there’s a part that Mercedes got perfectly, it's on the exterior of the EQS 450+, with the SUV sporting an aerodynamic profile that gives it a perfectly streamlined appeal while also exhuming a futuristic car aura. It's available in a wide range of color options that include:
  • Black
  • Polar White
  • MANUFAKTUR Alpine Grey
  • Sonoran Brown metallic
  • Obsidian Black metallic
  • Cirrus Silver metallic
  • Twilight Blue metallic
  • Emerald Green metallic
  • Selenite Grey metallic
  • MANUFAKTUR Moonlight White metallic
It also features the typical SUV profile, with a wheelbase of 126.4 in and a height of 67.8 in. It's a pretty long car, measuring 201.8 in. Also, the exterior of the 2025 models has been improved, such as the addition of soft-close doors, which are convenient to close, especially for kids. Being a pretty high car, the manufacturer has taken good care of its stability by having 21-inch wheels as the standard and adding 100% LED lighting and seamless design to its aesthetics, which is also featured in the interior.
While the exterior is phenomenal, it's on the interior that you truly experience Mercedes's state-of-the-art design sophistication thanks to the array of features such as the 56-inch Hyperscreen, Nappa leather steering wheel, comfy leather upholstery, and heated front row seats that are also perfectly ventilated to guarantee ultimate comfort. In addition, get to enjoy access to natural light enabled by the panoramic sunroof above, and you can also charge your phone while driving via the wireless charging feature.
Besides, the EQS 450+ sports ample storage space, with the biggest highlight being the large bin just beneath the center console, an impressive modification that makes perfect use of this area. Moreover, this vehicle can comfortably accommodate up to seven passengers; five is the standard number of passengers, although there’s the option to include a third row of seats.
How about the cargo space? This is also ample, with up to 31 cubic feet available, which shrinks to 28 cubic feet for vehicles with a third row when this additional row is not occupied.

Performance and Driving Experience

There’s really not much difference in performance between the Mercedes Benz EQS 450+ SUV and its sedan version. For instance, the SUV has a 335-hp electric motor powering the rear wheels with 419 lb-ft of torque, and this is also the case for the sedan. The SUV also comes with a Permanently Excited Synchronous (PSM) Electric motor type and a Single-Speed Automatic Transmission system.
It is powered by a 118 kWh battery that gives 265 kW of power. This SUV also features an adjustable air suspension and a rear-axle steering system designed to improve its mobility. It's not the fastest SUV on the roads, given that it takes 6.5 seconds to accelerate from zero to 60mph, but that still makes some decent time.
So, what’s the difference between driving this car and the sedan? The primary variation is that although the sedan is smooth on urban and tarmacked roads, it lacks this agility on weather and countryside roads. Contrastingly, the EQS 450+ SUV comes laden with an Off-Road drive mode designed to improve adaptability to rugged terrains. Thus, driving and handling the EQS 450+ SUV is quite fulfilling compared with not just the sedan but even other car models because of the aforementioned feature.

Technology and Safety

You don’t pay more than 100,000 bucks for some mediocre technology, and Mercedes-Benz gives you full value for your money by investing in a system that is just out of this world. The EQS 450+ SUV features a bottomless pit of state-of-the-art technology with outstandingly unique features only to this automaker.
For instance, it has a Car-to-X Communication system that allows vehicles with this technology to communicate in real life with details on the road that are beyond your vehicle’s line of sight. For instance, say that there’s a traffic snarl-up ahead that you are unaware of. A car with that technology already in the traffic will communicate with your EQS 450+ SUV, allowing you to use this information to seek an alternative road.
Another unique technological installation is the Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC. This feature allows your car to adjust its speed according to the traffic flow and also prompts instant braking in case the vehicle ahead comes to a sudden halt.
Coupled with this technology is the Active Steering Assist, which is sort of a lane-keeping assist that keeps the car on its lane without veering off. This feature is so effective that even in the absence of road markings, it can align your vehicle with those ahead, ensuring you are always in one file. Phenomenal!
You also get to enjoy the Active Brake Assist, which, as earlier mentioned, is designed to keep you safe in case there’s a stationary object ahead by instantly braking. And these features are just the tip of the iceberg, considering there are a load of other safety provisions such as:
  • 7 airbags
  • Antilock Braking System (ABS)
  • Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call
  • Crosswind Assist
  • Traffic Sign Assist
  • Antitheft Alarm System
  • EQ-specific safety concept for battery safety.
  • Surround View System
  • Front Center Airbag
  • Torque Vectoring Brake
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Advanced Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Range and Charging

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ SUV has a 118kWh battery with an OAC charging speed of 9.6 kW. When charged with a J1772 AC charging connector type, this battery will take approximately 11.5 hours to fill up from 0% to 100%. However, there’s the option of using a Combined Charging System (CCS) DC fast charger with a 200 kW DC charging speed that will see it charge from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes.
How about its range? Well, this is a car that doesn’t have you making regular visits to the charging station, as on a full charge, it can hit up to 323 miles before its battery runs out. For comparison, the sedan version, which also features a similar battery size, can clock up to 390 miles, which is quite outstanding. Still, definitely, the SUV comes with a host of luxury features lacking in the sedan so the lower range is a decent compromise.

Pricing Comparison

The price definitely matters because when purchasing a luxury vehicle, you don’t have to overpay for features you could have gotten for far, much less value. The 2025 Mercedes Benz EQS 450+ retails from $105,250, and this can get higher, of course, depending on the options and additional features you choose to add. For comparison, the sedan goes from $104,400, a slight price difference which is somewhat negligible, thus justifying the option to choose the SUV over it which now brings us to the part on why you should choose the SUV over the other options.

Why Buy the EQS 450+ SUV?

One of the reasons you’d go for this SUV is its pricing. Think of other luxury cars in its class, such as the Lotus Eletre, that go from $145,000. The EQS 450+ SUV is way cheaper, and even though one would argue that there are even cheaper alternatives, such as the Volvo EX90, BMW iX, and the Rivian R1S, they don’t guarantee similar luxurious and technological features as this SUV.
The other reason is its stability. This car prides itself on having the lowest center of gravity, and this is all down to its build, which ensures it’s less prone to accidents. Its design is also out of this world, and its near-buttonless interior is a significant selling point that only Tesla Cars can rival.
So who is the target group for this vehicle? If you fancy a luxury, premium EV that cares about sustainability without spending too much, then this is definitely your car. It’s just way too much technology for a base model, so you may not even find yourself considering the other trims in the EQS series.
