2025 Chevy Bolt Preview: Performance, Range, and Tech Upgrades

At the time of its discontinuation, General Motors CEO Mary Barra ruffled not a few but a lot of feathers when she announced that the company would cease production of the Chevy Bolt EV to focus on new-generation EVs. But after a nearly two-year hiatus, GM has finally yielded to customer demands, and the wild dream of a 2025 Chevy Bolt is now a reality.

And what a good time to be back; General Motors has since introduced a new battery platform technology and Ultium batteries that are intended to give the best range of all EVs. So although information is still scant on what to expect of the 2025 Chevy Bolt, there’s every reason to believe that the model will feature an improved range.

But what else should lovers of this all-time classic all-electric subcompact vehicle expect? Find out below as we provide you with an informed perspective of why the 2025 Bolt Chevy will be a big hit once it’s rolled out.

Expected Improvements of Bolt 2025’s Performance

Let's begin with the obvious: GM, having rolled out its Ultium battery technology, will definitely have them in the 2025 Chevy Bolt, and their impact will be phenomenal. Think of it this way: The 2023 Chevy Bolt did around 259 miles on a full charge, but the Ultium batteries are expected to at least clock the 300-mile mark.

What’s more impressive about this change is that the new GM’s flexible battery platform aims to significantly lower the cost of battery cell manufacturing, which translates to cheaper cars.

Nonetheless, there’s no expected change on the 2023 Chevy Bolt's single electric motor on the front wheel, with GM not ready to initiate self-cannibalism by introducing an AWD for their lowest EV model. However, this isn’t to say that the 200hp power output will be retained, as there’s the expectation that the manufacturer will raise this a few bars higher.

So expect improved performance on the Bolt 2025 without much disruption on the 2023 model’s pricing. Also, look forward to probably a faster acceleration rate than the current 6.5 seconds for 0 to 60 miles.

Expected Bolt 2025 Interior/Exterior Improvements

The 2023 Chevy Bolt was not a hideous model, but with other lowly priced EVs that accentuate style and aesthetics, like the 2023 Toyota Prius, being direct competitors, expect GM to deliver a more aesthetically appealing exterior on the 2025 Chevy Bolt.

Also, there were reservations among 2023 Chevy Bolt owners about it being too small, so GM will probably provide more interior room in the 2025 model. Expect more comfortable legroom, around 39.1 inches, and quite some decent cargo space to hold considerable goods, so around 16.3 cu ft would suffice.

In addition, we should be looking forward to some deluxe seat material and some improvement from the soft cloth seating in the 2023 base model. The entire interior should also have a revamp so as to be more functional, so expect features like:

  • A 10.2 ” touchscreen for easier controls.
  • Alexa, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto

Other features in the 2023 Bolt, such as the 8.0-inch customizable digital gauge cluster, heated steering wheel, and hands-free driving, should be mainstays.

2025 Chevy Bolt Battery Technology

The batteries for the 2025 Chevy Bolt will undoubtedly be a critical highlight whenever this car is mentioned, as they’re expected to be the greatest improvement on the 2023 model. For all we know, it’ll be a lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack built via Chevy’s state-of-the-art Ultium Platform.

So what’s all the fuss about this new tech? Well, it's simply incredible and the batteries sport a pouch style that encompasses several battery modules compacted together to create a battery pack with immense power punch than the conventional batteries. They also don’t take up immense space and perfectly fit any car’s design which is an incredible quality, especially for small cars like the 2025 Chevy Bolt.

It’s also expected to feature Bluetooth-esque tech for monitoring the battery levels, eliminating conventional wired connections. With this innovation, you can receive all the information on battery health and thus know when to take corrective action. Lastly, as earlier highlighted, although it's not yet clear what the battery output will be, it should be enough to last 300 miles at the least.

Position of the 2025 Bolt and its Audience in the EV Market

There's no doubt that the 2025 Bolt will be a huge hit, especially owing to its popularity, as evidenced by the public outcry following its discontinuation in 2023. They have also addressed a renowned EV Achilles Heel: slow charging. The 2023 Chevy Bolt charged really slowly compared to other EV models, and this is an area that GM has sorted.

Now you can add hundreds of miles in just a few minutes, and this alone is enough to skyrocket its sales and enhance its appeal to new EV customers. It's also expected to be lowly priced or at least slightly pricier than the 2023 model. Notably, the current Bolt model is eligible for the full $7,500 federal tax credit, and the same is expected of the 2025 Chevy Bolt, especially given that GM’s Ultium battery production is in the US.

Finally, GM president Mark Reuss was bullish when announcing plans for the new Bolt EV earlier this month, claiming that the company will not create a new lab to be able to manufacture a low-cost EV. This was a dig at Ford, and it aims to highlight that GM has all the nous and infrastructure to do an affordable EV, and this tells it all. This car is going to be super competitive.

2025 Chevy Bolt Versus Other Models

We won’t say that the Chevy Bolt doesn’t have a real match, but this car will effectively compete with other similar cars. Among its greatest selling points will be the cost, as, going by the 2023 model’s low price of $26,500, there are fewer similar models that can beat it.

The model 3/Y is priced at $40,630, the Chevy Equinox at $28,600, and the Blazer’s MSRP is around $35,400. This leaves the Bolt as the lowest-priced model, and with the improvements expected in the 2025 Chevy Bolt, it may actually end up being the biggest bargain in the EV industry.

In addition, the interior array of the Bolt will be a drawing point, especially when compared to minimalistic autos like the Tesla Model 3, which can be a headache to find a particular control button. Therefore, there are enough reasons to expect a boom in the Chevy Bolt’s popularity on its return.

Conclusion

Low-priced EVs don’t have to be bland, slow, and limited in range, and the 2025 Chevy Bolt is a true testament to this. Its absence was felt, and General Motors has decided to make a resounding return; Bolt lovers are, without a doubt, in for a big treat. It will be innovative and futuristic, designed to provide the necessary competition in the EV industry that will see other key players up their game. Its return is indeed big news for the EV sector.
