Chevrolet 2024 New EV
With the automotive industry moving towards electrification, Chevrolet is making news in the electric vehicle market again. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV is a big move for the iconic American automaker as it combines the pickup truck’s rugged ability with cutting-edge electric technology. Let us take a closer look into the new electric Chevy and see how it compares to the competition.
A Game-Changing Electric Pickup
Chevrolet now enters the competitive landscape of electric pick-ups with Silverado EV. An all-electric truck created on GM's Ultium platform, that aims at providing performance and versatility associated with Silverado but embracing zero-emission future.
Conversely, ‘Silverado EV’ changes this trend because it combines cabin and bed through unibody design rather than separate structures. This approach does not only enhance efficiency but also contributes to the vehicle's impressive range.
Pricing
Various trims of the Silverado EV will be offered by Chevrolet for different needs and budgets. The base WT (Work Truck) model starts at around $39,900 which makes it competitively priced against rivals like the Ford F-150 Lightning.
The fully-loaded RST First Edition and other high-end trims will fetch premium prices that could even exceed $105,000 for early buyers. However, one thing should be kept in mind is the price tag on the Silverado EV reflects its characteristics and capabilities in the luxury electric vehicle market.
Dealerships should get ready for selling the Silverado EV by fall 2023 with initial deliveries targeting WT and RST First Edition models. Other trims and configurations are expected to follow throughout 2024. Chevrolet also plans to introduce more Silverado EV trims throughout 2024, including mid-range options and the off-road focused Trail Boss model, to cater to a wider range of customers and preferences.
Exterior Design, Interior, and Cargo Space
The Silverado EV’s exterior design is a radical deviation from the fuel engine powered one. With its sleek profile and unique front fascia sporting LED light bars across its width, Chevy has given it an outlook that can only be described as futuristic while still retaining the typical strong look associated with Chevrolet trucks.
Inside, the Silverado EV features a roomy and contemporary cabin. The lack of a traditional engine also results in a bigger ‘frunk’ – the front trunk – and open interior layout. The dashboard has been replaced with a 17-inch diagonal LCD infotainment screen that is complemented by an 11-inch digital instrument cluster.
Versatility when it comes to carrying cargo is among the main attributes of Silverado EV. With this truck’s innovative Multi-Flex Midgate, you can haul objects up to 10 feet long with or without closing the tailgate of your vehicle, which extends to 12 feet if opened. In its standard form, bed length measures at 5 foot 11 inches; however, by folding down the Multi-Flex Midgate it increases to 9 feet.
Performance
Performance is not compromised by the Silverado EV. This high-end RST model is endowed with a staggering 664 horsepower and 780 lb-ft of torque in its Wide Open Watts Mode that allows it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds, making it comparable with some sports cars for speed.
With a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, the RST model is outstanding. The WT model offers an approximate 8,000 pounds worth of towing capacity which can be upgraded to 20,000 pounds through max tow package.
Range and Charging
When talking about electric vehicles range is one of the most critical aspects, and Silverado EV does not disappoint on this aspect. Some models by Chevrolet could have a single charge estimated as up to 400 miles per hour. This exceeds the current range estimates for competitors like Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T.
Moreover, thanks to its electrical architecture operating at eight hundred volts, charging times for this Silverado EV are impressive too. By simply connecting it to any DC fast charger it easily gains one 100 miles within 10 minutes. Level 2 home charging takes 8-10 hours, while Level 1 home charging can take 24-48 hours for a full charge. For example, many other Chevrolet’s existing EV products like Bolt EUV and Bolt EV take longer than this current charging rate.
Battery Longevity and Warranty
Silverado EV’s battery pack by design ensures long-lasting durability and performance. Chevy has not yet released any specific details regarding the life span of its batteries, but it supports its electric powertrain with a comprehensive warranty package.
Peace of mind is provided to early adopters through an 8 year/100,000 mile warranty on the battery and electric components. The warranty coverage here is standard in the industry and similar to what Chevrolet offers for other EVs.
It should be noted that with proper maintenance and care, the battery can last far beyond the warranty period stipulated. A number of modern electric car batteries are expected to retain between 70-80% of their original capacity after 8 to 10 years.
Safety
Chevrolet has equipped the Silverado EV with a suite of advanced safety features. Standard across all trims is the Chevy Safety Assist package, which includes:
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Forward Collision Alert
- Front Pedestrian Braking
- Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
- Following Distance Indicator
- IntelliBeam Auto High Beams
More safety features, such as Super Cruise – GM’s hands-free driver assistance technology will be found in higher trims. This system permits hands-free driving on compatible roads for extra convenience and safety during long highway trips.
Enhanced crash protection is provided by the Silverado EVs unique structure which integrates the bed and cabin. Although official crash tests are still not available, Chevrolet has consistently manufactured vehicles that comply with or exceed safety standards.
The Chevrolet Silverado EV for 2024 takes a large step forward in the electric pickup truck market. With its impressive range, powerful performance, innovative design and comprehensive safety systems, this new electric Chevy will have a significant impact on the evolving automotive landscape. And as more Americans get behind electric vehicles, the Silverado EV becomes a compelling choice for those who can’t compromise on environmental consciousness or cutting-edge technology but need a capable truck-like vehicle.
